Pump Servicing, Repairs and Inspection Reports
Send us the pump. We inspect it, test it on the bench and send you a written report telling you what is actually wrong with it, before anybody touches a spanner or asks you for money.
Most pump problems get diagnosed over the phone by someone who cannot see the pump. That is how people end up buying a new pump when they needed a $40 seal, and how people spend money on a repair that was never going to hold. We would rather look at it.
The short version
- $50 inspection and written report. Waived if you go ahead with the repair, or if you buy a new pump from us.
- $104.65 per hour workshop labour, including GST.
- One week turnaround in normal conditions.
- Loan pump available if you cannot be without water.
- Nationwide. Any courier will deliver to us. You do not have to be in the Coromandel to use the workshop.
- No work starts until you have the report and have said yes.
What you get in the report
A real document, emailed to you, not a phone call you have to remember. It covers:
- What we found. The actual fault, named. Seal, bearings, impeller, capacitor, motor winding, pressure switch, or the pump is fine and the problem is somewhere else in the system.
- Bench test results. What the pump is actually delivering against what it should deliver. This is the part a phone diagnosis cannot give you.
- What it costs to fix, parts and labour, quoted before we start.
- Whether it is worth fixing. If the repair costs more than the pump is worth, we will say so and quote you a replacement instead. We would rather tell you that than take the money.
- What caused it, where we can tell. A pump that has run dry, a foot valve that is letting go, a system that is short cycling. Fixing the pump without fixing the cause just buys you a few months.
What we work on
Anything we sell and most things we do not, from any of the major brands. We hold accounts with the distributor parts networks, so a part we do not have on the shelf at Waihi or Kopu is usually a day or two away rather than a special order from overseas.
House and pressure pumps
Jet, multistage and variable speed. Davey, Grundfos, DAB, Bianco.
Bore and submersible
Down the bore or in the tank, plus the headworks and controls on top.
Dewatering and effluent
Sumps, effluent and dairy. Clean and bag these before sending, see below.
Transfer pumps
Tank to tank, trough and wash-down, and anything moving volume.
Engine driven fire pumps
Davey Firefighter and Gusher. Engine service as well as the wet end.
Filtration and treatment
Whole house, UV, softeners and iron removal. Puretec and Kinetico.

Call or email first

Drain it
Get as much water out as you can. A pump full of water is heavier, freight costs more, and in winter a frozen pump can crack a casing in transit.

Clean and bag sewage and effluent pumps
This one is not optional. Effluent and waste submersibles must be cleaned, bagged and clearly labelled before they are sent, and you need to tell us it is coming. It is a health and safety matter for whoever opens the box, and an unbagged effluent pump will be refused.

Pack it properly and include your details
Put your name, phone number and a note about the fault inside the box. Pumps arrive with no paperwork more often than you would think, and an unidentified pump sits on the floor until somebody rings us.

If the pump is plumbed in and you would rather not pull it out, we service on site across the Coromandel, Hauraki and Waikato, and we are on call 24/7 for emergencies. TW Farm and Electrical has been doing this since the 1980s and has 18 staff and a full fleet, so a site visit is a normal day rather than a favour.
That is the difference worth knowing about: most places that sell you a pump online cannot come and look at it. Installation and service.
