Where it fits
This system suits homes on rainwater, bore, or rural water that need whole house filtration and chemical-free UV disinfection outdoors. The weatherproof cabinet with a lock protects the gear from sun, rain, and tampering. Sized like the indoor I-Series: the E8 with 10 inch cartridges for smaller homes, the E9 with 20 inch cartridges for higher flow, the E13 adds a carbon block stage for chlorine, taste, and odour removal. For indoor install, look at the Hybrid I-Series. For a budget UV option in the same family, look at the Puretec Basic WU-UV range.
Common questions
Which size do I need, E8, E9, or E13?
Match by flow and water quality. The E8 has 10 inch cartridges and suits smaller homes up to about 75 L/min. The E9 uses 20 inch cartridges for higher flow up to 130 L/min and longer between cartridge changes. The E13 takes the E9 spec and adds a third stage carbon block (up to 120 L/min through the carbon), ideal when you want chlorine, taste, or odour removed. Send us your home details and we will help size it.
What is the difference from the I-Series?
The cabinet only. The E-Series is built for outdoor with a weatherproof lockable cabinet, the I-Series is indoor with an open mounting. The filtration and UV inside are the same. Pick by where the unit will live.
Will it treat bore water?
Yes, within Puretec's published water quality limits: iron under 0.3 mg/L, hardness under 110 mg/L, pH 5 to 9, hydrogen sulfide under 0.05 mg/L, suspended solids under 10 mg/L. If your bore exceeds those, fit iron removal or softening upstream. Puretec can run a UV transmittance test to confirm.
How often do the UV lamp and cartridges need changing?
UV lamp every 365 days (Puretec RL7 46W). The controller counts down and beeps when due. Cartridges every 6 to 12 months depending on water quality. Check the quartz sleeve every 3 months and clean with Puretec SC1000 sleeve cleaner if buildup appears.
What should we watch out for at install?
The cabinet is weatherproof, but mount it on a solid wall out of direct flooding and keep cartridge and lamp access clear. Cold water line only, on a fixed power socket with surge protection (Puretec supplies one, code PC-SURGE). The outlet must connect to metal pipe for at least 1 metre before any plastic. Install must be by a licensed plumber to keep warranty valid. For the full rundown, follow our install guide.
What is the warranty in NZ?
Puretec offers a 3 year warranty: 1 year parts and labour, then 2 more years parts only. UV lamps, cartridges, and the quartz sleeve are consumables and not covered. If something goes wrong, come to us first and we will do the legwork with Puretec on your behalf. Puretec are usually accommodating, but warranty cover is at their discretion and they may ask for photos of the install before approving a claim. The cleaner the install, the easier the claim.
