Puretec Softrol Water Softener

A Puretec Softrol softener removes the calcium and magnesium that make water hard, by exchanging them for sodium across a resin bed. Hard water is what furs up your kettle and shower head, leaves spots on glassware, kills hot water cylinders early and makes soap refuse to lather. Softening fixes all of it at once.

Get a water test first. Every one of these systems treats a specific problem, and the wrong one will not fix your water no matter how much it costs. A test tells you what you are actually dealing with. We would rather tell you that before you spend the money.

• Soap and detergent that will not lather, and stiff laundry

• Bore and some town supplies testing high in hardness

Key Specs

• E1 timer backwash: regenerates on a schedule. Cheaper, and fine where usage is predictable
• E3 volumetric: meters actual water used and regenerates only when needed. Uses less salt and less water, and pays the difference back on a busy household
• TA twin alternating: two tanks, so soft water keeps flowing while one regenerates. For houses that cannot take a service gap
• Flow: 25 to 100 L/min depending on model
• Salt: a softener needs salt topped up. SoftenerSafe SS5000 keeps the resin bed clean
• Media: RMK-SOL30 through RMK-SOL60 when the resin is eventually spent
• Drain and power required at the install location

Why We Like It

Sizing matters more than model here. Too small and it regenerates constantly, burning salt and water; too big and you have paid for capacity you never use. Send us your hardness figure and the number of people in the house and we will size it properly. If you only want scale protection and not full softening, ask about ScaleProtect instead, it is a lot cheaper.
