Puretec PX Series Polyspun Sediment Cartridge

The Puretec PX series is a graded density polyspun sediment cartridge made from virgin polypropylene with no centre core. Graded density means the outside of the cartridge is coarser than the inside, so the whole depth of the material loads up with dirt rather than just the surface blinding over. It is the low cost sediment cartridge and the one most systems run.

Which micron? 20 micron or 50 micron as a first stage on dirty tank, creek or bore water, catching grit and sand. 5 micron is the general purpose choice and what most whole house systems run, taking out silt, rust and fine sediment. 1 micron is a polishing stage that goes after something coarser, or ahead of a UV steriliser, since UV only works in clear water.

Smaller is not better. Fitting 1 micron as your only cartridge on tank water means it blocks fast, pressure falls off and you replace it far more often than you should. Two stages, coarse then fine, costs less to run and holds pressure.

Polyspun is not washable. When it is loaded, it gets replaced. If you want something you can rinse and reuse, look at the PL pleated range instead.

Which size? Slimline is the standard 2.5 inch diameter cartridge. Jumbo, which Puretec calls MaxiPlus, is 4.5 inch and takes far more flow and far more dirt before it blocks, which is why whole house systems use it. The 10 inch and 20 inch measurement is the length. Your housing decides this, not your preference, so measure the old cartridge or read the housing label before you order.
