Where it fits
This system suits homes on rainwater, bore, or rural water that need whole house filtration and chemical-free UV disinfection in one indoor cabinet. Sized to match your home: the I8 with 10 inch cartridges suits smaller homes, the I9 with 20 inch cartridges handles higher flow with longer time between cartridge changes, and the I13 adds a carbon block stage for chlorine, taste, and odour removal where the water source needs it. For outdoor mounting, look at the matching Hybrid E-Series. If you want UV only with your own pre-filtration, look at the Puretec Basic WU-UV.
Common questions
Which size do I need, I8, I9, or I13?
Match by your flow and water quality. The I8 has 10 inch cartridges and suits smaller homes up to about 75 L/min. The I9 uses 20 inch cartridges for higher flow up to 130 L/min and longer between cartridge changes. The I13 takes the I9 spec and adds a third stage carbon block, ideal when you want chlorine, taste, or odour removed (mixed town and tank water, or drinking-grade output). Send us your home details and we will help size it.
Will it treat bore water, or just rainwater?
Designed primarily for rainwater, but it works on most clean water sources within these limits: iron under 0.3 mg/L, hardness under 110 mg/L, pH 5 to 9, hydrogen sulfide under 0.05 mg/L, suspended solids under 10 mg/L. If your bore exceeds those, you need pre-filtration (iron removal or softening) upstream. Puretec can run a UV transmittance test to confirm. Talk to us first.
How often do the UV lamp and cartridges need changing?
UV lamp every 365 days, it is a Puretec RL7 46W lamp. The controller counts down and beeps when it is due. Cartridges every 6 to 12 months depending on water quality. The quartz sleeve should be checked every 3 months and cleaned with Puretec SC1000 sleeve cleaner if buildup appears.
What is the difference from the E-Series?
The I-Series is built for indoor installation, the E-Series is weatherproof for outdoor. The filtration and UV inside are the same. Pick by where the unit will live.
What should we watch out for at install?
Indoor only, cold water line only, on a fixed power socket with surge protection.
What is the warranty in NZ?
Puretec offers a 3 year warranty: 1 year parts and labour, then 2 more years parts only. UV lamps, cartridges, and the quartz sleeve are consumables and not covered. If something goes wrong, come to us first and we will do the legwork with Puretec on your behalf. Puretec are usually accommodating, but warranty cover is at their discretion and they may ask for photos of the install before approving a claim. The cleaner the install, the easier the claim.
