The Puretec SFS is a multimedia sediment filter with an automatic backwashing head. Instead of a cartridge you replace, it uses a graded bed of filter media that traps silt and suspended solids, then flushes itself to drain on a schedule. On genuinely dirty water it is the difference between changing cartridges every fortnight and not thinking about it.

Get a water test first. Every one of these systems treats a specific problem, and the wrong one will not fix your water no matter how much it costs. A test tells you what you are actually dealing with. We would rather tell you that before you spend the money.

• Bore, creek, dam and river supplies carrying silt
• Any house where cartridge filters block faster than you are willing to change them
• Cloudy or turbid water
• Protecting a UV steriliser, which needs clear water to work
