Puretec IRONSTOP Iron and Manganese Removal System

At a Glance

IRONSTOP removes dissolved iron and manganese from bore and tank water. It works by oxidising the iron so it comes out of solution, then filtering the solids out and backwashing them to drain automatically. Iron in water is invisible until it hits air, which is why the first sign is usually orange staining in the toilet cistern or on the washing rather than discoloured water at the tap.

Get a water test first. Every one of these systems treats a specific problem, and the wrong one will not fix your water no matter how much it costs. A test tells you what you are actually dealing with. We would rather tell you that before you spend the money.

Ideal for

• Bore water with orange, red or brown staining on fixtures, laundry or paths
• Black staining, which is usually manganese rather than iron
• A metallic taste, or water that goes cloudy then settles orange in a glass
• Blocked shower roses, irrigation drippers and appliance inlet screens
• Rural supplies where a cartridge filter blocks within days

Key Specs

• X models, air intake: draw air in to oxidise the iron. Simpler, no consumable, and the right answer for most domestic bores
• Z models, ozone: add an ozone generator for stronger oxidation. For higher iron, manganese, or where there is a sulphur smell as well
• Flow: 40 to 90 L/min on the 40 models, 70 to 120 L/min on the 70
• Automatic backwash: no cartridges to change
• Media replacement: RMK-ISTOP40 or RMK-ISTOP70 when the bed is eventually spent
• Drain and power required at the install location

Why We Like It

Cartridge filters are the wrong tool for iron. People try one, it blocks in a week, they try a finer one and it blocks faster. Iron has to be oxidised before it can be filtered, and that is exactly what this does. Which model depends on your iron level and whether manganese or sulphur are in the mix, so send us the water test.
