Automatic pressure manager for pump start and stop control. Provides dry run protection and stable water pressure without the need for a pressure tank.

Description

Grundfos PM START is an all in one pressure manager designed to automatically start and stop water supply pumps based on demand. It replaces traditional pressure switches and can be installed with or without a pressure tank.

When a tap is opened, PM START starts the pump at a fixed cut in pressure and keeps it running while water is flowing. If the water supply runs out, the built in dry run protection stops the pump to prevent damage, with automatic restart once water supply returns.

Available in two cut in pressure options, PM START 1.5 bar and PM START 2.2 bar, allowing it to suit single storey homes through to multi level buildings.

That flow sensing is what lets it run without a pressure tank, because it is not relying on stored volume to decide when to shut the pump down.

Choosing the cut in pressure

PM START 1.5 bar suits single storey homes and installs where the outlets are not far above the controller. PM START 2.2 bar suits multi level buildings, or where the taps sit well above the pump. If you have upstairs bathrooms, take the higher one. If you would rather fine tune the setting than pick a fixed one, step up to the PM PLUS, which adjusts from 1.5 to 3 bar.

Protection

Built in dry run protection stops the pump if the water supply runs out, which is the most common way a domestic pump gets destroyed. It restarts automatically once water supply returns, so a dry tank does not mean a service call.

Pressure tanks

Not required, but worth adding on systems that see a lot of small draws. A tank absorbs those short calls for water so the pump is not starting and stopping all day.
